Fresh Twig (Brett G. Mowat) operates BraaiVille at braaiville.com. This page explains what happens to your information when you play.
The short version: the game runs entirely in your browser and we collect nothing about you — no account, no sign-up, no analytics. Your saved city never leaves your device. The one exception is advertising: this site carries Google AdSense, and Google sets its own cookies to choose the adverts you see. You can opt out of personalised ads — see Advertising below.
Information we collect
None that identifies you. BraaiVille has no account system, no login, and no form that asks for your details. We do not ask for or receive your name, email address, physical address, date of birth, location or payment information. Our advertising partner collects its own data for ad selection, as described under Advertising.
Data stored on your own device
The game uses your browser's local storage to remember:
- your saved city — layout, treasury, date and progress;
- your chosen music style and volume;
- any custom icons or audio you add through the admin panel.
This data stays on your device. It is never uploaded to us, and we have no way to read it. It is not shared with anyone.
Clearing your browser data deletes your saved city permanently. Use 💾 Save → Export Save File first if you want to keep it.
Save files you export are ordinary files on your own computer. If you share one, only city data travels with it — nothing personal about you is included.
Third-party services
Playing BraaiVille involves these third parties:

Cookies
The game itself sets no cookies. Your saved city is kept in your browser's local storage, which is a different mechanism: it is not transmitted to any server and is not used to track you across websites.
Our advertising partners do set cookies. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to select and measure the adverts shown alongside the game. See the Advertising section below for what that involves and how to opt out.
You can manage or block cookies in your browser settings. Doing so will not stop the game working — your city will still save and load normally.
Advertising
This site shows adverts supplied by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve adverts based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
Google's ad scripts are loaded from Google's servers, which necessarily see your IP address, the page you are on, and your browser's user-agent string. We do not receive that data ourselves — we see only aggregate earnings reports, which contain nothing that identifies any individual.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. For details of how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see Google's partner-sites policy.
Third-party vendors other than Google may also place cookies through the ad slots. Opting out of personalised ads does not remove the adverts themselves — it means they are chosen without reference to your browsing history.
Children
BraaiVille is suitable for general audiences but is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because we collect none ourselves.
Advertising on this site is served by Google. If you are a parent and want adverts shown without reference to browsing history, use Google Ads Settings on the device in question, or block third-party cookies in the browser.
Your rights
Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and equivalent laws such as the EU/UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of personal information held about you, and to complain to a regulator.
Because we hold no personal information about you, there is normally nothing for us to retrieve, correct or erase. The data the game creates is already entirely under your control, in your own browser, and you can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
South Africa's regulator is the Information Regulator.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "last updated" date at the top will change with it. Material changes — such as introducing advertising or analytics — will be made here before the feature goes live.
